Peter William Horsfall (Ex Corporal R.G.A.)

Peter was the son of architect and surveyor, William Henry Dodgson Horsfall. In the 1901 census Peter, aged 16, was recorded as assistant to a merchant. Later, married to Dorothy, and living at 12 Moorlands View, Peter carried on a successful business as a hosier and general outfitter in New Crown Street.

He took an active interest in the Halifax and District Fanciers Association, was a member of the Loyal Georgean Society, and connected to St Jude’s church.

He served with the 145th Siege Bty., Royal Garrison Artillery (R.G.A.), for about two years; eighteen months of which was spent in France. Demobilised in January of 1919, he was just starting to remodel his business which had been carried on by Dorothy in his absence, when in early April he contracted influenza. This developed into sceptic pneumonia and he passed away at his home, 12 Moorlands View on 14th April 1919 aged 33 years.

At the funeral, the Rev. S.W. Scadding took the services both at the house and St Jude’s Church, and performed the last rites at the graveside at Lister Lane Cemetery.
